Family

Sunday my side of the family and Kenny's side of the family combined for Family Dinner. No specific reason why. No holiday, no birthday, just "as my mother put it", in the name of love. To fellowship. To get to know each other. Just... because!

What was interesting about the occasion was that "it was out of the norm". As i reflect on it, i admit i am a bit disturbed that getting together with ones family is out of the norm. You watch movies like Soul Food, This Christmas and various Madea movies and see Sunday dinner as an event that expected. But in our day and culture this is abnormal. What happened to the family dynamics? Why isn't a family expected tocome together often, to eat, talk, play games, and pray. A family that prays together, stays together right???? Why aren't we together? Where is the fellowship?

Sadly i can answer all my questions wit excuses of people beingtired, busy, working everyday of the week, havingthings to do, needing to get ready for the week and the most famous one of just resting from a hectic week. BLAH, BLAH, BLAH!!! If we don't get ourselves together (LITERALLY!)

We've had the chance to visit Kenny's cousins in Maryland. They make sure every Sunday they have dinner together at rotating houses. They get together even if someone has a 2nd service to attend or other obligation. No matter what they have dinner together. They sit and eat together. They talk, laugh and stay connected. It's wonderful! That's what we need in Philly.

My mission with my family is to stay connected and for it to be the norm. We need to get together more. Everyone is getting older, drifting away into their own world and getting lost.

FAMILY needs to be restored. We need to expect to see each other more often and get in each others business. So i propose to attempt to have Family Dinner at least twice a month. We'll see how it goes.

I suggest you do the same before everyone is lost!

On the other hand, we hada great time at my moms house!!
