Monday, Match 1, 2010, I was on my way home from a long day of stressful work (Riiight...) I was about 5 minutes from my neighborhood when suddenly, my car made a *clacking* sound. I stopped driving and put it in park for a secong, then tried to drive off again and it wouldn't move. It sounded like something was stuck under the car, so I got out and tried looking under the car (in my dress and heels) to see what could be causing hte sound. Nothing was there. So I tried driving again and it just didn't move. It just kept *clacking*. A stranger walking buy yells out "Sounds like your transmission sis". Cops pull up besides me and ask what happend. I tell them my car just stopped running. They say "it stopped in the middle of the street?" Uhh yea! And they pull off! THANKS FOR ALL YOUR HELP!
A bystander offers to help puch the car into a nearby parking spot and I call Kenny to let him know I'm stranded and I phone roadside assistance. They inform me my wait ill be about an hour and a half. (Mind you, this neighborhood is scary!)
Kenny arrives and sits with me and we determine the car is trash and we need to get rid of it. It's not worth putting anymore money into it. It's a 10 year old Kia Sephea and it has too many problems. The car was given to us from my mom and she kept it in the shop.
The tow truck arrives and takes it to our home. By the way, while waiting for the tow truck we witness 2 LARGE raccoons patrolling the neighborhood. I was soo scared.
Once we arrives home I realized I wouldn't be able to attend my aerobics class because it was so late and then I become MAD! I think I almost cried. I really enjoy that class.
Fast forward a few days, my job is connected to Cars4Causes. It's an organization that allows people to donate used cars, that they fix up and sell to families in need. And the money goes to charities. I thought, what a great way to get rid of our car. SO the process began.
- I completed a form online to have my car donated.
- Someone contacted me, within 24 hours, about additional paperwork they needed.
- They arranged for a tow company to pick up the car, depending on our schedule.
- They pickup up the car, YESTERDAY!
Virtually no hassle!
I'm also glad to say 70% of the proceeds from the sell of my car will go towards my organization of choice, BEBASHI - Transition to Hope, and it qualifies as a tax write off because we donated a car to charity. In the end, everyone is happy!
So long, little green car. Enjoy meeting someone else's needs.
(Now I need another car, a CR-V, Jeep Liberty, SOMETHING!)
