Little People N Church

I had such a horrible experience last night...

I've been attending a friends church the past few Wednesdays and of course I've had to take Ray. Usually they provide children's church and he can go and play while I'm able to listen, but that wasn't the case last night.
I get there only to find out there wasn't children's church. My mind immediatley thinks the worse because Ray's behavior is that of, well a 2 year old! But to my surprise, he was actually doing okay. He was coloring, drinking his cup, reading a book, actually being quiet. Then the pastor asks the congregation a question and Ray answers loudly "NO!". And after that remark it all went downhill. He began to blurt out words and while I'm trying to quiet him down, the pastor requests that I take Ray out because they were recording and his voice may be picked up on the mics.
Yes, anger set in: I've drove a half hour to the church, we were only there for a half hour, and now it's time to drive the half hour ride back home! Such a waste of time and by the way, gas is going up. All I wanted to do was hear the word!

So we left.

Now I have an issue with "the church". See, it would have been different if I were asked to go to a "cry room" or take him to a children's church like room, but that wasn't offered, so I was essentially kicked out of a church. All in the name of a recording...

Why not offer help? The pastor doesn't know my situation, whether I was a believer or not, whether I was having some issues with the child or not, whether I was having issues in life or not. My circumstances were not looked at, we were just a burden for what they were doing at the time and instead of "helping", we were given the boot!

Maybe I'm crazy for being upset but I believe us Christians definitely need to do a better job at helping each other. I recalled this devotional I read the other day from Our Daily Bread:

Recently, our family had to change Internet cable services. Our former provider promised to send us a postage-paid box to mail their equipment back to them. We waited. No box came. I phoned. The promised box still did not arrive, but we did get a bill for the equipment!

Wanting to get this resolved, I decided to return it at my own expense. I sent several faxes asking if they received it—but no reply. Then I got a refund check of $.02 for the returned equipment! An experience like that can be frustrating. A simple transaction was complicated by poor communication.

Sadly, some people in our churches may encounter an impersonal response to their needs. Whether seeking marital counseling, childcare, guidance for a troubled teen, or a loving community, they come away feeling uncared for.

The first-century church was not perfect, but it faithfully helped others. The church at Jerusalem “divided [their goods] among all, as anyone had need” (Acts 2:45).

Good communication is the starting point for learning others’ needs. This enables us to provide personal and practical help to people when they need it. Resources, both material and spiritual, can then be directed to each person as the object of God’s personal lov

All who serve within the church
Should show by word and deed
A sensitivity to those
Who have a special need.

Do not withhold good from those to whom it is due, when it is in the power of your hand to do so. —Proverbs 3:27

God cares for you—care for others.

I would have been upset as well. Many churches these days are so concerned with making a name for themselves that they fail to do the very thing they were called to do - care for the masses. Please don't let this leave a sour taste in your mouth for too long. Continue to pray for guidance in finding a church that works for you.....

I know that was very frustrating; for one Ray's getting on your nerves and then that happens. You could have taken him to the play room but you still would have missed the message. Maybe it could have been handled different, you can't turn back the hands of time so what do you do now? Harbor anger or extend grace and shake it off?
