The Lord spoke to my heart earlier and challenged me in the way I think and what I think about. As Ray’s situation comes at us head on, I need to shift my focus. (Frankly, it’s really not fun to sit and cry most of the day and night. I tend to get a really bad headache and there’s no real benefit to it.)
So, I put myself on a 7 Day of Happiness Challenge. I’m going to focus on God’s word and find something “good” to dwell on these next few days. I’ll include a little story, a verse and maybe a song that God uses to speak to my heart. Here’s day 1:
Nehemiah 8:10 “Do not sorrow, for the joy of the LORD is your strength.”
It’s easy to be sad and feel sorry for yourself (myself). It’s easy to sit around and cry and just be zoned out from life. What we don’t realize is that with the “easiness” of sadness comes a drained and weak person. That’s how I’ve been feeling. Drained, weak, tired, restless – all in one. It’s from worrying, I'm sure – but worrying about issues I have no control over. These issues are draining me mentally and physically and I need to rely on the Lord’s strength to get me through each day.
God’s strength will not only get me through the day but it’s His JOY that will strengthen me. When I think of His goodness and what He’s done for me, my soul cries Hallelujah about how he set me free! What’s most joyous about what’s going on right now is that I’m saved and serve a God whom I can rely on for strength, joy, peace and hope. I can rest knowing the grace of the Lord will hold me up.
The song God gave me for today is “You Are My Joy” by Tye Tribett
You were there to wrap
Your arm around me
When my nights were cold
And lonely
When I need shelter from The rain
All I had to do was call
Your name
Never let me down
You're always there
Told me all my burdens
You would bear
Never truly understand
Your ways
I understand you love me
And for this I want to say
You are my joy
Because of you I smile
Right in my storm
Your strength is perfect
When I'm weak and worn
Thank you for the love
You give to me
Thank you for your grace
And mercy
When all of these trials
Should make me sad
I will rejoice for you have
Made me glad
You are my joy
The words are beautiful!
Thank you Lord for helping me to focus on YOU!
