During lunch on Thursdays I visit Greater Exodus for their middday service. It's a great break from the office and helps revive my spirit. Today the Pastor spoke from (the ending verse) of
Revelations 10:6 -"that there should be time no longer"
He spoke about how important time is. He described time as one of the greatest gifts you can ever give someone because when you give of your time you are essentially giving of your life. There is no greater way than to honor somone than by giving them your time. Time is a unique gift that can't be taken back once given away. It is individual and can't be transferred to another person.
What's even more interesting about it is that it's something heaven can't give. In heaven, there is no concept of time and life is eternal. God does not havea concept of time. He just does stuff when it needs to be done. (That's probably why we think He's slow. He just does stuff whenever!!) What's good about time with God is that moments with Him will not subtract anything from me. When we give of our time, it's taking our life, but God is eternal so nothing is taken away from Him.
During the service I began to dwell on spending time with friends = giving my life. That's such a great sacrifice. I never thought of it that way but it sure does make sense. WOW! All this time I've been giving of my life and didn't know it. These past two years can never be repeated but it sure was an honor to not only give of our time but our life to a little baby. God loves us so much that He not only wants us to experience life though Him, but through fellowship of others. Maybe this is that "abundant life" He's talking about.
I am gratful that God choose us to give life, "our life", to Ray. We gave Ray a unique gift that no one else can get and he is even more special to us because of that. We "befriended" him as God had us to and inturn blessed him with LIFE!
As John 15:13 so eloquently says, "Greater love hath no man than this, that a man lay down his life for his friends."
Jesus is the giver of all life and He wants us to immitate Him in the laying down of our lives for friends.
The song God put on my heart for today's "Happy Dance", is You've Been a Friend by Iarael and New Breed. It's a beautiful song.
Verse One: Thank you for all you've done through your Son thank you for all you do you've brought me through when I look around and see where I've been you've been a friend
Chorus: Glory honor exaltation power blessing worship love without end you've been a friend wo wo wo wo wo wo wo there's not a friend like you wo wo wo wo wo wo
Verse Two: For protecting me when I could not see thank you for hiding me under the shadow of your wings when I look around and see you again you've been a friend
Vamp: Oh, oh what a friend I have in you
